Programme: Regional Farmers’ Organisations and Big Data

At the launch of the Sub-Saharan Food Security Portal, several key contributions were made on how farmers’ organizations can contribute to data-driven farming. Presentations were made by Elisabeth Atangana, President of PROPAC,  Ishmael Sunga, CEO of SACAU, Ousseini Ouedraogo, Executive Secretary of ROPPA, and Fatma Ben Rejeb, CEO of the Pan African Farmer’s Organization.

PROPAC condemns US human trials of GM bananas

December 2014

PROPAC, as part of the Alliance For Food Sovereignty In Africa (AFS), along with the and US Food Sovereignty Alliance, has openly condemned the US human trials of GM bananas funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

At CTA’s Panel discussion on ‘Data-driven farming in Africa’, the president of the Panafrican Farmers’ Organisation (PAFO) explained the importance of data for agriculture by stating, “data will probably be the air we breathe”.

AFSA calls on ARIPO to allow seed exchange

The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), a Pan African platform comprising civil society networks and farmer organisations, including PROPAC, has called on the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) to allow farmers to continue to exchange, share and trade seeds.

PROPAC receives Agro-ecology Funding

PROPAC, as one of the members of the Alliance for Food Security in Africa (AFSA) has received part of a $200,000 fund to support agro-ecology solutions for farming in Africa.
