Strengthening Networking Capacity

The creation of the PAFO is a decisive moment in the capacity building of African farmers’ organizations networks. It is synonymous with the culmination of a long process that is part of the establishment of grassroots productions organizations to achieve the institutionalization at the continental level for a partnership between regional umbrella organizations through local, national and regional levels.

PAFO is therefore the formalized response, brought by farmers’ organizations, felt a need for cooperation by the members of this organization in the defense of smallholders’ networks. His birth coincided with the opening of most African societies to life partnership and in conjunction with the structural adjustment policies that have initiated a withdrawal of the Government from the agricultural sector. Networks and farmers’ organizations that emerged at that time had all main goal which is environmental improvement of agricultural production in a context where it was considerably degraded.

Initially structured around sectors and different times of the agricultural production value chain and these networks have begun to focus on the strategic and political issues. They challenge today to guide policy decisions for a prosperous and sustainable dynamic African agriculture, built around regional networks of well-organized and efficient family farming.

Through a series of documents, here you will find opinions, proposals and responses that PAFO and its members bring to these questions. This production and co-production on the thematic of capacity building will be progressively updated:
