AGRICORD has just published a new fact sheet on the FORI programme. A fact sheet presenting the programme, its objectives, methodology and partners ……
Presentation : The FORI programme, an innovative research-action initiative in agroecology, is led by AgriCord in collaboration with producer organisations, research centres and agricultural agencies. This initiative emphasises sustainable food systems through the active participation of producers, especially smallholders, women and youth, in 17 countries in Africa, the Pacific, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean.
Objectives and methodology : FORI aims to empower producers through training and support. The programme uses a research-action approach in which producers identify and analyse local problems, develop research protocols, validate results and disseminate innovations. This collaborative effort enhances local knowledge and promotes innovations tailored to specific agricultural contexts.
Key achievements : Preliminary results indicate improved productivity and profitability while maintaining environmental integrity. Notable innovations adopted by hundreds of farmers include composting, biological pest control using biopesticide plants, intercropping and horticultural crop diversification. In addition, the programme has successfully involved 569 women and youth in decision-making processes across its projects.
Partnerships and collaboration : The FORI initiative thrives on a multi-stakeholder partnership involving AgriCord, agricultural agencies, research institutes and producer organisations. This collaboration amplifies the voices of producers and mobilises the necessary resources for effective research-action initiatives.
Challenges and solutions : FORI addresses several challenges, including improving the social and economic stability of farmers, reducing chemical use, and improving adaptation to climate change. The programme also focuses on securing livelihoods in the midst of political crises and promoting biodiversity conservation.
Lessons learned and future directions : Producers have shared positive experiences of the simplicity and accessibility of the solutions provided, such as rainwater harvesting techniques. As FORI continues to scale up its successful pilot phase, it invites more stakeholders to join in promoting an agroecological transition for sustainable food systems.
Join us in extending this successful pilot phase and contribute to a sustainable agroecological future. For more information, please visit the AgriCord website.
