2nd PAFO Board meeting

PAFO held its second Board meeting for the year 2024 on July 19 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This strategic event gathered the presidents and executive secretaries of member networks, highlighting the importance of collective governance within the organization. During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to discuss critical issues affecting the agricultural sector in Africa, reinforcing PAFO’s commitment to its members.

Discussions focused on the strategic priorities for the coming year, particularly the need to adapt programs to emerging challenges related to climate, markets, and agricultural policies. A central point of the meeting was the approval to develop the platform into a “Panafrican Academy of Farmers.” This academy aims to enhance farmers’ capacities by providing tailored training and resources, leveraging the experiences of members to promote exchange and sharing of experiences among peers.

Furthermore, the Board validated an action plan for organizational development (OD), which includes initiatives aimed at strengthening PAFO’s governance according to best international practices. This plan is crucial for ensuring effective and transparent resource management, thereby fostering trust and collaboration among members. The Board also emphasized the mobilization of resources for agricultural development in Africa, highlighting the importance of attracting external funding and improving strategic partnerships.

This organizational development process will enable PAFO to better address the challenges of the agricultural sector, such as food security, market access, and the impacts of climate change. Ultimately, PAFO will be well-positioned to be the voice of African farmers, advocating and defending their interests at national, regional, continental, and global levels. This will not only strengthen PAFO’s position but also contribute to a sustainable future for agriculture in Africa.
