The Empowerment of Young Agricultural Producers in Africa (EYPA) mentorship programme, jointly implemented by the Pan-African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), concluded in Kigali, Rwanda, with an inspiring closing ceremony celebrating innovation, mentorship, and youth leadership in African agriculture.
Over several months, young agricultural entrepreneurs from across Africa benefited from mentorship, business coaching, and networking opportunities with seasoned experts. The programme aimed to strengthen youth participation in agri-food systems and support the growth of sustainable agribusiness ventures.
At the closing event, mentees pitched their projects before a jury of experts. After careful deliberation, 2 outstanding entrepreneurs were awarded USD 3,000 each to scale their businesses. In addition, 12 other participants received certificates for completing the programme and expanding their professional networks through peer learning and collaboration.
Mentors were also honoured for their invaluable guidance and contribution to building a stronger, youth-driven agricultural ecosystem in Africa. The event reaffirmed the shared vision of PAFO and FAO to empower young producers with knowledge, confidence, and resources to lead the continent’s agri-food transformation.
“This mentorship journey has proven that with the right support, Africa’s youth can turn ideas into impactful enterprises,” said Dr. Babafemi Oyewole, Executive Director of PAFO.
The EYPA programme embodies PAFO’s mission to build the capacity of young farmers, promote innovation, and foster sustainable food systems that benefit communities across Africa.
