Kigali, Rwanda — April 26, 2025
The Pan-African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) has successfully concluded a landmark Training of Trainers (TOT) session on Climate Change Adaptation, Agroecology, Advocacy, and Negotiations, held in Kigali from April 22–25, 2025.
Bringing together participants from all five regions of Africa, the training equipped leaders from national and regional farmer organizations with essential knowledge and skills to champion climate resilience, sustainable farming, and farmer-driven advocacy across the continent.
The four-day session covered critical areas, including:
- Understanding and addressing climate change impacts on African agriculture;
- Integrating farmers’ perspectives into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs);
- Promoting agroecological practices for resilient food systems;
- Effective strategies for influencing policy and negotiations at national and international levels.
The workshop featured intensive modules, collaborative group work, and knowledge-sharing exchanges. Participants developed strategic action plans tailored to their home contexts to promote farmer-centered climate solutions.
At the closing ceremony, trainees were awarded official certification, marking their readiness to act as trainers and advocates in their countries and regions.
« With this TOT, PAFO is investing not just in skills, but in leadership and resilience for Africa’s future, » said Dr. Babafemi O. Oyewole, CEO of PAFO.
« African farmers must be seen not just as victims of climate change, but as solution providers—and today, we have certified a new wave of leaders ready to make that case. »
The TOT was organized by PAFO with technical and financial support from the FAO, IUCN, AgriCord, and other partners.
